Term 3 - Progress Reel

All my hard work, blood and sweat for term 3. I learned a lot this terming, pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. I think I got a better grasp on this whole cartoony style of animating. Lots more to learn of course. Stay tuned!

Term 3 - Assignment #3

Anim Jam #3 - Chase n Fall

Tailor enters screen right, skipping over stones getting to the other side of the stream. Stewie tries to chase after tailor but gets ahead of himself, slips on the stones and falls flat on his face! I'm going to continue to experiment with exaggeration and try to keep a consistent cartoony feel with this one as well to hook up with my previous assignment.

Term 3 - Assignment #2

Anim Jam #2 - Sneak and Chase

Second shot of the Animation Jam. I have stewie come out of his axing action and notices tailor come into screen..sneaks up behind him and tries to swipe/grab him. This one was a fun and challenging piece. I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and try some more exaggerated and cartoony takes with a character. I think it worked out ok and learned quite a bit out of it.

Term 3 - Assignment #1

Term 3 - Advanced Body Mechanics
Mentor: Drew Adams

Term 3 has begun and is going by really quick! I've been really busy and haven't had time to update. This term we get to choose a theme and hook up all our assignments together...but here it is planning and animation for the first assignment.

Term 2 - Assignment #3

DANCE! DANCE! DANCE! - I wanted to do dance cause I found a really cool hip hop clip and thought it'd be challenging. It was nothing like animating on Backyardigans... although having worked on that show did help. I followed the traditional approach of doing key poses, then breakdowns and then inbetweens for this assignment. I'd say it turned out pretty well. I think I'm still a fan of keying poses as opposed to the layered approach.

Term 2 - Assignment #2

NINJARIFIC! - I learnt a lot doing this assignment. I was comfortable enough to try something a little different and go outside of my comfort zone. Light bulbs starting going off going into this assignment and I started to see basic principles of animation in a new perspective and with more understanding. For example, seeing squashing and stretching within the whole character rather than one particular body part - and is what I experimented with this assignment.

I had audio initially in my blocking stage, but as I got to the final stage, it worked well without it and decided to take it out! It was my first time that I had planned out an entire shot in such detail from doing sketches/thumbnails and working out timing before going into Maya. I'd have to say it helped out big time..it really cuts out all the guess work in 3D and getting a better sense of timing, breakdowns and inbetweens. So that was my process for the first assignment and I'm learning tons!

A big thanks to Steve Wigmore for helping me with lighting and showing me the ways of a better pipeline for my work.
